2005–2015
This selection brings together works on canvas and paper produced between 2005 and 2015. Painting, washes, burnished wax and collage reveal a sustained investigation into the material construction of the image and the expressive possibilities of each support.
Layers, scrapings, resists, fragments and assemblages articulate a tension between structure and accident. These works reveal the origins of questions that continue in later projects: the memory of materials, the transformation of the surface and its ability to evoke landscape, architecture or vestige without depicting them literally.
